Taking the next steps for a thriving implant career

“After placing implants for a couple of years, I had begun providing treatment more regularly and felt that I wanted to refine my soft tissue skills so I could achieve better aesthetics and improve longevity of the implants. I went online in search of an appropriate training course.”

Dr Oliver Brown from Damira Dental Studios decided to further his knowledge and skills in the field with the Soft Tissue Around Dental Implants course with Dr Boota Singh Ubhi of BPI Dental & Education. Sharing his experience of training he says:

“The course was absolutely incredible – even better than I thought it was going to be. It covered topics in the perfect amount of detail, so you really understood what you were being taught. I found the practical elements particularly interesting, with the chance to practise techniques on the pig’s head. The content was delivered in such a way that everything linked together smoothly. This, combined with the hands-on, meant I had the confidence to use what I learned in practice straightaway. The programme was very well organised and Boota was a really good tutor – clearly very capable and experienced. His team from the practice were great too, really friendly and helpful.

“Since then, the on-going support has been excellent. I have spoken to Boota a few times, briefly updating him on the cases I have completed and sending photos of my work. It’s been great to have follow-up discussions and feedback, and there is a course WhatsApp group for general discussion as well.

“I now feel much more confident to take on trickier cases, especially in the aesthetic zone. I am now confident that I can deliver an optimal result for anterior implants, with the skills and tools to predictably meet patient expectations.

“Going forward, I want to focus more on implants, aiming to eventually focus solely on this field in the future. I am now considering a Master’s programme in implantology, and the second stage of this course to develop more advanced soft tissue skills. The first course set me up well for this development.

“For all of these reasons and more, I would, without a shadow of a doubt, recommend the Soft Tissue Around Dental Implants course to others. It has been absolutely fantastic. To get the most out of the training, I would say you need a certain level of implant experience and to be confident placing implants already. That said, this is about developing and refining soft tissue management techniques, so it’s definitely beneficial within the early few years of your career. I was probably one of the least experienced with implants on my course, but I learnt so much. The teaching improves everything you do, even the surgical skills they recap on I now use every time I place an implant, regardless of the soft tissue management.

“Of all the dental courses I’ve taken, this was one of the most well-organised and valuable. The schedule was really thought-out and there were very useful hand-outs, which have been great to look back on to refresh my knowledge. All round, it was a great course.”
